![]() ![]() So, what’s it all about, then? The Ocean at the End of the Lane is the story of a man in his early fifties who returns to his childhood home, only to find long dormant memories awakened. ![]() The Ocean at the End of the Lane may market itself as an adult horror story, but it’s just as much about the mysteries of childhood, and it can (and should) be enjoyed by anyone who can handle a good scare. And like the very best of his work, his latest novel blurs the line between adult and juvenile concerns as deftly as he mixes fantasy with reality. ![]() The last time Neil Gaiman worked outside of the official “children’s literature” genre was 2005’s Anansi Boys, but seriously…any grown-up with a pulse who didn’t get the best kind of chills when they read The Graveyard Book in 2009 probably doesn’t care for Mr. And by “adult” I mean, a work aimed at mature audiences…not “adult” in the sense of anything remotely porny or anything like that. It’s been seven long years since Neil Gaiman has written an “adult” novel. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() So, even though I grant "Blood Magic" three stars, I have to warn you, this is going to be a negative review. ![]() Drawn together by a combination of fate and chemistry, Silla and Nick must find out who else in their small Missouri town knows their secret and will do anything to take the book and magic from Silla." He has a few secrets of his own and is all too familiar with the lure of blood magic. What's a little spilled blood if she can uncover the truth? And then there's Nick the new guy at school who makes her pulse race. The spells share one common ingredient: blood, and Silla is more than willing to cast a few. She is consumed by a book filled with spells that arrives mysteriously in the mail. She can't stop thinking about her parents alleged murder-suicide. Everywhere Silla Kennicott turns she sees blood. But instead of mythical creatures, blood magic has everything to do with primal human desires like power, wealth, and immortality. It's a natural next-read for fans of Stephanie Meyer, Carrie Jones, and Becca Fitzpatrick. This page-turning debut novel will entice fans who like their paranormal romances dark and disturbing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() “But my book makes me, even makes it absolutely imperative for every reader to put themselves in the forefront, to become a living source, the main character who experiences every page, every feeling, every line.” “I have one central image – a generalized human personality typed through himself,” the poet wrote. The subject of the story – “I” – is close to the personality of the author of the book, but not identical to it. Sapphire Flames picks up three years after Wildfire. That said, Sapphire Flames worked better for me than Burn for Me, partly because I knew what to expect endingwise and partly because Alessandro was more to my taste than early Rogan. ![]() I don’t love it (I’m definitely #TeamHEA) but for you I will do it. To finally see them together as adults (Catalina is now 21) was very exciting.Ĭatalina’s trilogy starts with the same pattern as Nevada’s and by that I mean that there is no HEA/HFN here.
